Masquerade(29.11.2009 to 02.12.2009)

CIRS provides a myriad of opportunities to its students to showcase their talents- be it academic, cultural, literary or social. One such activity is the “Masquerade” where every house stages a play for about an hour’s duration. This was a treat for all the people who love imaginative creativity and appreciate the almost professional.

The school was upbeat with enthusiasm as every house vied with one another to be the best, from 29th November to 2nd December 2009. Valmiki house presented an extravaganza based on the concept of time travel with a very powerful message of how sacrifice wins called “Enigma.” The Vashishta house staged the fascinating “Judgement of Paris” which proved that wooing a girl was not an easy task and what if the suitors had to prove their mettle through acting skills? Hence we had a play in a play. The Vishwamitra house staged ‘His and Hers.’ It was simply hilarious. It dealt with the issues of the perpetual gender equality issues between a couple and how they reach a compromise. The Vyasa house took us out on a tour to the world of Disney which had a heady mix of everything in it– love, laughter, action and of course villains.

The students did almost everything independently- be it selection of the story, writing the script, making the most creative and elaborate stage decoration, selecting and designing the costumes, choice of apt music, designing publicity campaigns, practising after class hours and honing acting abilities. Teachers witnessed the budding producers and directors of CIRS tirelessly working to put together an amazing show.

“Masquerade” was an exercise in teamwork and cooperation. There was perfect division of work, planning and coordination. This could provide a lesson or two to the corporate heads, as every student in the campus pitched in to contribute to the resounding success of their respective house plays. Guruji's Visit to CIRS

27.08.09:

Poojya Guruji Sw. Tejomayananda was welcomed in a traditional way with Poorna Kumba, and followed by greetings from the staff members of C.I.R.S. family. Guruji addressed the gathering of staff members with a quote “You Sit where you Stand.” He elaborated on this point and explained that our attitude makes us achieve higher altitudes. He also emphasized that the height we reach was dependent on the depth that we have. Further Guruji also threw light on Gurudev’s vision explaining the terms knowledge, service and efficiency “Jnanam Seva Cha Kaushalam”. Basically Guruji reminded us that the mission of all the Chinmaya Vidyalayas is live up to the master’s vision. This was followed by a question answer session which was very relevant to the present times, where Swamiji answered to the best of our satisfaction in the most interesting and humorous manner. Guruji then sang a melodious Bhajan and thereafter he blessed each one of us and prasad was distributed.

28.08.09:

It was indeed fortunate for the children of C.I.R.S. to have Poojya Guruji with them. Guruji first asked a very philosophical question “What is Life.” He then went on to explain that if we thought life is war we would constantly be at with everything happening in our life and if we thought life is a challenge then we would always be worrying about how to surmount the challenges posed every moment of our life. He went on to say that if we thought “Life is Music” we would always enjoy every moment of life, just like we enjoy every musical note. He then introduced a Dutch family, Mr. Frank and his two teenage children, Gerard and Antom. Gerard played the Violin and Antom played the Cello. The two youngsters introduced to us the melody of western classical music through varied compositions from across Europe like France, Germany, Italy, etc. They ended the concert with a piece called ‘Gratitude’ a homage to Gurudev with Guruji’s famous bhajan ‘Jai Siya Ram’. The performance mesmerized all present in the hall. The session concluded by proving that Life indeed is Music.
